Track and field athletes and table tennis players from the Island Garden City of Samal (IGaCoS) showcased their skills during the Summer Sports Tournament organized by the City Government through the City Mayor’s Office–Sports Division on May 16, 2026, at the Peñaplata Central Elementary School SPED Center.
A total of 94 athletes from across Samal Island, along with guest participants from Davao City, took part in the athletics competition. Meanwhile, more than 20 paddlers joined the table tennis tournament.
Coach Rolando Lacno expressed his excitement over the strong turnout of participants this year, noting that competitions like these provide valuable exposure to help young athletes develop their skills and build confidence.
Track and field athlete R-man Cabangbang from Davao City shared that the tournament was a memorable experience, adding that the participants not only enjoyed the competition but also appreciated the beauty of Samal Island.
The simultaneous tournaments reflect the local government’s continuing commitment to nurturing Samalenyo athletes by giving them opportunities to compete and gain experience through organized sports programs.
