MATI CITY, Davao Oriental — There was no room for the joy felt by the players, coaches, and supporters of the Under-17 basketball team of Barangay Dahican after they captured the championship title in the first-ever People’s Administration Inter-Barangay Summer League.
Barangay Dahican defeated the formidable team from Barangay Lanca in a thrilling championship game.
For the first three quarters, Dahican’s supporters were subdued as Barangay Lanca dominated the match behind the strong performance of star player Manabat.
However, the momentum shifted in the fourth quarter as Dahican slowly erased a 10-point deficit. The team then took control of the game and held on until the final buzzer, securing a six-point victory.
Following the game, the players expressed their gratitude to the People’s Administration under the leadership of Joel Mayo Almario for organizing the tournament and giving young athletes the opportunity to gain valuable experience.
The players said the league encouraged them to focus on sports during the summer and helped keep them away from negative influences.
They also expressed hope that the tournament would continue in future summer breaks.
