MANILA, Philippines — Representative Harold Duterte condemned the reported attempt by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to arrest Senator Ronald dela Rosa within the premises of the Senate of the Philippines.

In a statement, Duterte questioned the legal basis of the move, noting that the issue remains under judicial review.

“This attempt was made with murky legal basis and while the same is currently before our courts,” Duterte said.

The PPP Party-list representative expressed support for Dela Rosa and criticized what he described as a serious abuse of authority.

“As a member of Congress and as a Filipino, I stand by Senator Bato and denounce this latest abuse of power,” he said.

Dela Rosa, a former chief of the Philippine National Police, has been facing legal challenges related to his role in the Duterte administration’s anti-illegal drugs campaign.

As of posting time, the NBI had not issued an official statement regarding the reported attempt to arrest the senator inside the Senate compound.
